Karnataka: Channapatna Vidhansabha Constituency
Channapatna is a town and taluka headquarter in Ramanagara district. Channapatna lies on busy Mysuru-Bengaluru highway and is about 60 kms from Bengaluru.
The city is famous for its wooden toys and lacquerware. The origin of these toys can be traced to the reign of Tipu Sultan who invited artisans from Persia to train the local artisans in the making of wooden toys. These toys are manufactured in traditional and advanced small scale industries. Manufacturing and twisting of raw silk, rice, ragi and coconut is a major product of Channapatna taluk.
C P Yogeeshwara from Samajwadi Party is the current MLA and he defeated Anitha Kumaraswamy of JDS by 6464 votes. In 2011 bypolls, Yogeeshwara, who was in BJP then, defeated JD (S)'s Sl Nagaraju by 17,803 votes.
