Janmashtami pics: When people swooned at Kanha's rhythm

Krishna Janmashthami is one of the most awaited festivals in India, which is held on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Sravan in the Hindu Calender.

The colourful ensemble of the festive preparations comes to life when the Rasa Lila is performed, which is the dramatic enactment of the amorous relations Lord Krishna had with his Gopis.

Dahi Handi celebrates God's playfulness and the mischevious side, where men form towers to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it.

While the ritual remains, the approach has changed a great deal. The festival is not restricted to Hindus only, but Muslims and christians too who dress up their kids as Radha or Krishna for a fashion dress competition in the school or at home. That is not all, bollywood celebrities too celebrated the festival at their home. Check out the pictures here.
