Bangalore, Sept 6: Ukrainian president declared a cease-fire on Friday to end nearly five months of fighting in the nation's east after his representatives reached a deal with the Russian-backed rebels at peace talks in Minsk.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Friday welcomed the ceasefire agreement in eastern Ukraine, encouraging all parties to "display good will and take concrete steps towards urgent, full and effective implementation".

In other news, Ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza won her third Grand Slam mixed doubles title on Friday when she partnered with Brazil's Bruno Soares to beat the US-Mexican pair of Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonazalez. The scoreline read 6-1, 2-6, 11-9.
