In pics: India's 'Young Achievers' who made their nation feel proud

As the year 2013 is about to bid goodbye in few days, let's take a look at some of the young faces from different fields who shone like stars throughout the year.

Here is a list of the young achievers, some of whom are not too famous yet but gave India a proud moment by their stellar performances in their respective fields of politics, cricket, sports and science & technology:

Arvind Kejriwal (Politics)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal untapped the power of young generation and within a year of its formation, crushed the 15-year-old Congress rule in the national capital. With 28 assembly seats in its kitty, AAP has given BJP, who won 32 seats, its worst nightmares in forming the government in Delhi.

Kejriwal's "aam aadmi" approach with Delhiites hit the resonance and won their hearts.

Rakhi Birla (Politics)

26-year-old Rakhi Birla became the youngest candidate after contesting on the AAP ticket from north Delhi's Mangol Puri area. Rakhi defeated three-time Congress MLA Raj Kumar Chauhan by 10, 585 votes during Delhi assembly elections 2013.

She is a post graduate in Masters in Mass Communication and was working as a journalist with a private news channel. Hailing from a Valmiki community, Rakhi also works with few social institutes.

Rohit Sharma (Cricket)

Rohit Sharma, the Indian international cricketer, is the second highest scorer in an ODI innings, scoring 209.

While playing in Bangalore's Chinnaswamy stadium against Australia, he became the third player to score a double century in an ODI and with 16 sixes, he broke the world record for most sixes hit in an ODI innings.

Rohit is the third cricketer to have score double century after Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Cricket)

Hailing from western Uttar Pradesh's Gurjar family, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh Mavi secured a prestigious place for himself in the list of Indian cricketers.

Bhuvneshwar, who plays for UP in domestic cricket, has played for various Test matches, ODIs and T20is.

During IPL match, he played for the Pune Warriors India. Bhuvneshwar is also known for being an excellent swing bowler who consistently takes wickets in the opening stages of matches.

Bhuvneshwar hogged the limelight with his stellar performance in the Champions Trophy claiming six wickets at an economy rate of 3.91 and was included in the 'Team of the tournament'.

P V Sindhu (Badminton)

Young Indian Badminton player, P V Sindhu made her country proud when she twice won the grand prix title . In May this year, 18-year-old Sindhu won her first Malaysian Grand Prix Gold Title and on December 1, she won the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold title.

Sindhu also became the first ever Indian woman to win a medal in singles at the World Championships. She is ranked number 3 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Junior Rankings.

Arunima Sinha (Athletics)

26-year-old Arunima Sinha, who lost her left leg in an unfortunate incident on April 11, 2011, but despite the fact that she lost a leg, she did not gave up the spirit of her life and defied all conceivable odds.

On May 21, 2013, she achieved the rare feat to become the first Indian amputee to conquer the Mount Everest, with the help of a prosthetic leg.

Besides, setting an example to the world, Arunima also made India, a proud nation when she hoisted the Indian tricolour flag at the peak of the Mount Everest.

Deepika Kumari (Archery)

Currently ranked as World number 2, Deepika Kumari is a former world number one in Archery.

During 2010 Commonwealth games, Deepika won two gold medals. She also qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

At an age of 15 years, she won the 11th Youth World archery Championship held in Ogden, USA in 2009.

In 2012, Deepika was conferred with the India's second highest sporting award, the Arjuna Award by the President Pranab Mukherjee.

Dr Bilal Habib (Science)

Dr Habib won the award for designing and developing an Ecological Monitoring Programme involving local communities the in Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve in Uttarakhand.

Habib was named as one of the six winners of the UNESCO's Young Scientist Awards for 2013.
