The birthday celebrations of the much-loved Hindu deity Lord Krishna in the form of Janmashtami was celebrated all across the country on Saturday, Sept 5.
Queues of devotees outside Krishna temples, little children dressed up as Krishna with flutes in hand and a peacock feather stuck on the headbands, and elaborate tableaux depicting the birth of the deity were seen at many temples.
Mathura, the land of Lord Krishna was in the grip of tremendous religious excitement as Janmashtami was celebrated with traditional fervour in five temples.
In Kerala, Janmashtami is celebrated as Sree Krishna Jayanthi.
Lord Krishna is one of the most lovable gods. Famed for his naughty antics as a child and his flirtatious playfulness, Krishna is at the same time deemed the ultimate saviour and protector. Main celebrations take place in the midnight in all the temples.
