In Pics: Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations across India
As the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across India, we bring you some pics of how the festive day unfolded and how every state coloured itself in the mood of Eid.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Islamic holy month of Ramadan, with religious fervour and gaiety.
In Meghalaya, thousands of Muslims clad in their best attires, men and children offered Namaz-e-Eid at Eidgahs next to mosques in the state capital, at Byrnihat, Lad Rymbai, Dawki, Nongpoh and in the Garo Hills too.
Over 8,000 people offered prayers at the Eidgah ground of the Madina Masjid here. It is the biggest glass mosque in the entire north eastern region. Meghalaya Governor K K Paul and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma greeted people of the state on the occasion.
In Kerala, where Muslims account for a quarter of the state's 33 million people, the biggest congregations took place in Muslim dominated areas such as Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur.
In Tamil Nadu, Muslims exchanged greetings with relatives and friends after the morning prayers, with the usual fervour, with tens of thousands offering prayers in mosques across the state. Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and DMK chief M. Karunanidhi greeted Muslims on the occasion.
In West Bengal, around 43,000 Muslims gathered on Red Road for the Namaz-e-Eid, while thousands offered prayers at Nakhoda Masjid, Tipu Sultan mosque and several other mosques in the city.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, thousands of Muslims offered prayers at Eidgahs and mosques in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the two states as celebrations kicked off to mark the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan. Major congregations were witnessed at the historic Mir Alam Eidgah, Makka Masjid, Secunderabad Eidgah in Hyderabad. Big gatherings were also reported in the towns of Nizamabad, Warangal and Mahabubnagar in Telangana and at Kurnool, Anantapur, Vijayawada and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.
In Karnataka, thousands of Muslims - who comprise about 20 percent of the 60 million population in the state - celebrated the festival, marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Hijra calendar.

In Maharashtra, Eid was celebrated in Thane, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Aurangabad, Pune, Nashik, Beed and other regions.
In Madhya Pradesh, Thousands of Muslims offered prayers at Idgahs and mosques in Bhopal and elsewhere in the state as celebrations kicked off to mark the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.

morning,
people
distributed
sweets,
sevai,
dry
fruits,
perfume
among
their
family
members,
relatives
and
neighbours.
In Uttar Pradesh, namaaz was offered at Eidgah and Tile Wali Masjid here in Lucknow. Entire families thronged shopping malls, cinema houses and the zoo. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav greeted people on the occasion of Eid.
In Rajasthan, thousands of Muslims gathered to offer prayers at Idgah on the outskirts of the city and Jama Masjid in Johri Bazar area in Jaipur. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot also greeted Muslims on the day.
In Punjab and Haryana, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated by people in the twin states with traditional fervour and gaiety underlining the spirit of harmony that the festival symbolises. People across Punjab, Haryana and capital Chandigarh flocked to the mosques and offered prayers marking culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.

In Delhi, thousands of Muslims dressed in their festive best turned up at historic Jama Masjid, Fathepuri Masjid, Hazrat Nizamuddin and other mosques in the city to offer special prayers on the festival marking the culmination of holy fasting month of Ramzan.
In Jharkhand, Governor Syed Ahmed greeted people on the occasion while Chief Minister Hemant Soren called upon the Governor to greet him. Muslims offered prayers across the state while a member of a Hindu family in Ramgarh district, 55-year-old Ishwar Prasad Mehta, completed 14th year of observing the month-long fasting to mark Ramazan.
