Free Wi-Fi at Bhubaneshwar Railway Station
Under the dynamic leadership of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Indian Railways has been providing numerous new services to the passengers. The move of Indian Railways to provide water to drought hit Latur region in Maharashtra by train has earned them kudos.
Indian Railways is now expanding the high speed Internet network facility for rail users. Indian Railways will be launching the Google's free Wi-Fi service at Bhubaneshwar station from the 17th of April.
Bhubaneshwar will be the second station to be covered under the project. The first one to be covered was Mumbai Central.
Google will provide free Wi-Fi services at both the stations.
The entire facility has been designed to offer rail users the best internet experience. Any traveller who has a smartphone will be able to use the Wi-Fi.
The travellers will be able to watch high definition videos as they wait for their trains at these two railway station with Wi-Fi becoming operational.
Indian Railways is committed to providing better internet facilities to the passengers at 100 busiest stations by the end of this year. This is one initiative that has been undertaken under the Digital India programme.
10 more railway stations are under trial for the launch of Google's Wi-Fi service. These 10 railways stations are: Jaipur, Patna, Ranchi, Ernakulum, Allahabad, Lucknow and Guwahati. These railway stations will soon have the Wi-Fi service shortly.
The free Wi-Fi service is provided by Railtel a public sector undertaking of the Indian Railways in collaboration with Google.
As per the agreement, Railtel will be the ISP and Google will be the provider of the Wireless Area Networks (WAN). Google also will set-up the points of access at platforms.
The target of the Indian Railways is to roll out the free Wi-Fi service at 400 railway stations across India. This will cover all major rail premises.

Additional facilities such as extension of the IInd class waiting halls, platform shelters, raised platforms, piped water supply, refreshment rooms, vendor stalls, foot-over-bridges, retiring rooms, seating arrangements, lighting, water coolers, fans, clocks, urinals, lavatories, bathrooms, etc. Is also being provided depending on the passenger volume and the climatic conditions at different stations.
On board also passengers now get excellent menu to select food from including home made food at some stations where it is available.
