Flashback 2015: Bizarre remarks made by politicians
We can always count on our politicians to provide us with sexist or bizarre statement throughout the year. Whether it is mudslinging at each other or making sexist or bizarre remarks, the politicians never fail to disappoint us.
In 2015, there were many instances when popular leaders stroked controversies with their remarks.
We take a look at some of our politicians who made bizarre or sexist remarks:
JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav ‘s comments on South Indian women
Earlier this year Sharad Yadav said that the skin and body of South Indian women was far from acceptable for the women MPs in Rajya Sabha.
He said that the women from the south were dark but their bodies were beautiful. This comment sparked a huge political controversy as many politicians criticized Yadav and sough this apology.
Giriraj Singh strokes controversy about Sonia Gandhi
BJP leader Giriraj Singh courted controversy when he said: "What if former PM Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian and if she was not white skinned then would Congress have accepted her as the party chief? "
The comment even angered the Nigerian envoy who termed the incident ‘unacceptable.'
Meanwhile, Singh was pulled up by top party leaders for his comments. If reports are to be believed BJP president Amit Shah pulled up Singh and asked him not to be an embarrassment to the party.
Hindu women should have at least 4 children
Earlier this year, BJP leader Sakshi Maharaj said that in order to protect Hinduism. "A Hindu woman must have at least four children. Give one to the army, another to us religious leaders and teachers," he said.
The comment drew sharp criticism from the Opposition who hit out at Maharaj.
VK Singh's Dalit and dog remarks
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Genral (retd) VK Singh said that Centre cannot be blamed for the murder of two Dalit children in Faridabad.
However what angered many was when he said: "If somebody throws a stone at a dog, then the government is responsible. It is not like that."
The comment drew severe criticism from many including AAP and Rahul Gandhi.
When Sharukh Khan faced politicians' ire
Bollywood actor Sharukh Khan was slammed by several politicians. While some claimed that Shah Rukh Khan lived in India, but his heart is in Pakistan, there was BJP MP Yogi Adityanath who even compared him to Hafiz Saeed.
However the BJP soon distanced itself from Adityanath's views and said that they were not the party's views.
