First year of Modi Sarkar: How world leaders praised PM Narendra Modi

It has been year now since Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance came to power in India and it has been rated as good year. After assuming charge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid attention on foreign policy of the country. He has been widely praised for his foreign policy and rescue operations in Yemen and Nepal.

Nepal was hit by the massive earthquake in the last week of April. Indian government was praised for its Operation Rahat and Operation Maitri in Yemen and Nepal respectively.

World leaders praise PM Modi

Modi was once criticised for his alleged inaction during the Godhra riots in Gujarat that left over 1000 people mostly Muslims dead. The US refused to grant him a visa, and it was made clear he was unwelcome in Britain and Europe, who imposed diplomatic boycotts.

US President Barack Obama in an article in TIME magazine described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India's reformer-in-chief.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also appreciated India's efforts in the rescue operations in Nepal, Modi said, adding he thanked the Pakistan leader for his "kind words".

Pakistan's opposition leader and cricketer turned politician Imran Khan has also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "reputable political leader, who has already made a significant personal contribution to the promotion of the Russian-Indian cooperation."

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott hailed India as "the emerging democratic superpower in Asia" and said the Australian government wanted to "crank up" the trade relationship between the two countries with "a comprehensive economic partnership agreement".

British Premier David Cameron has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "man with a clear vision" and praised him for breaking the deadlock over the trade facilitation agreement (TFA) at the WTO.

Lauding Japan's deep historical ties with India, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he was looking forward to a summit meeting with his counterpart Narendra Modi tomorrow, after the two leaders spent time together in ancient Kyoto city visiting Buddhist temples.

John Kennedy, president of the United Indian Association of Australia, said Mr Modi is so popular because people in India want to see change and they believe he can deliver it.

How media praised him

Chinese newspaper Global Times, said Modi has the capacity to resolve major contradictions between the two Asian giants.

"Modi is considered as a state leader with strategic insights. He may become a Nixon-style statesman because of his pragmatism and capacity to resolve major contradictions between China and India and to tackle the common challenges of development," the article on Global Times said.

Pakistan Anchor Javed Chaudhry praised The Simplicity of Narendra Modi In Comparison With Their Own Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Global ratings agency Moody's Investors Service has revised India's sovereign rating outlook from ‘stable' to ‘positive', citing recent reform measures by the National Democratic Alliance government. However, it maintained the rating at the lowest investment grade.
