Bengaluru, June 6: His parents abandoned him immediately after his birth. But thankfully, the little one, wrapped in a plastic bag and lying under a bush, was spotted by a ragpicker in Bengaluru's Electronic City a few days ago, and he was saved from dying.

After the locals informed the police about the abandoned baby, assistant sub-inspector Nagesh R arrived at the spot to rescue him. His was in "bad shape", so the police official took him to a hospital for treatment, stated a report by The Hindu. The hospital treated the orphan free of cost and thereafter, Nagesh brought him to his office, Electronics City police station.

"The baby was in bad shape. He was covered in blood and the umbilical chord was wrapped around his neck," Nagesh told The Hindu.

The miraculous survival saga of the newborn does not end here. He was not only baptised as Kumaraswamy (a name that rings a bell as the newborn's namesake is none other than new chief minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy) by the police, but a lady constable breastfed the hungry child, for whom mother's milk was an urgent necessity.

The kind gesture of lady constable, Archana, who a few months ago has given birth to a child, to feed the baby has been appreciated a lot by all.

After looking at the "weak and motionless" baby, Archana decided to give him a new lease of life by breastfeeding him. The child, who till then was almost silent, after being fed well thanked all with a "gusty cry".

Nagesh also bought new clothes for baby Kumaraswamy before he was handed over to Shishu Mandir, a home for children in the city. When asked why the newborn was named Kumaraswamy, the police official gave a heartwarming answer.

"It is the government's baby now, and we decided to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government," Nagesh told The Hindu.
