As the Supreme Court resumes work following its summer vacation, it would take up a number of high profile cases. While hearing on several cases including the one on triple talaq will be taken up, the court is also expected to pronounce its verdict in the J Jayalalithaa and Arunachal Pradesh case.

The verdict in the Arunachal Pradesh and Jayalalithaa cases had been reserved after lengthy arguments had been advanced. Sources say that the verdicts in these cases are likely to be pronounced by the end of July.

However there are indications that the verdict in the Arunachal Pradesh case in which the Governor's power to summon the assembly session had been challenged.

While the in the Arunachal Pradesh case, the verdict had been reserved prior to the court going on vacation on May 16, in the Jayalalithaa matter, arguments had been advanced before a vacation bench. The Bench comprising Justices P C Ghose and Amitava Roy had indicated that it did not want arguments to continue after the vacation.

Among the other matters that will come up for hearing would be a petition challenging triple talaq. The Court would also take up a petition seeking the repeal of Section 377 IPC or the homosexuality matter. A public interest litigation petition seeking a ban on Whatsapp as it threatens national security due to encryption will also be taken up by the Supreme Court.
