Tragedy:

In 2011, the twenty four year old Arunima Sinha was thrown off a moving train by some robbers for refusing to hand over the gold chain she was wearing which was the only gift from her mother. As a result, one of her legs had to be amputated below the knee when a train went over it.

She never wanted people to see her in sympathy and feel pity because of her prosthetic leg. Sinha thought the only option to prove herself was to scale the highest point in the world: Mount Everest.

Sinha completed a basic course from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering followed by 18 months of rigorous training. Sinha first climbed Island Peak (6150 metres) in 2012 as preparation for her ascent of Everest.
