Andhra Pradesh wonderkid: 2-year-old prodigy sets national archery record


Bengaluru, Mar 25: She is just two-year-old, but Dolly Shivani Cherukuri from Vijayawada has achieved a rare feat by setting a new national record in archery and entering her name into the India Book of Records.

Eight days before her third birthday, she shot 36 arrows each from five metres and seven metres to score 388 points to become the youngest Indian to score 200 points over five and seven-metre distances.

Senior sports personalities and India Book of Records officials were pesent at the show.

The child prodigy was conceived through surrogacy after the death of her brother Cherukuri Lenin, who was the Indian coach and an international archer.

Lenin was killed in 2010 in a road accident, soon after Delhi Commonwealth Games.

India Book of Records representative Vishwajit Ray and Sports Authority of India representative P Rama Krishna presented with the certificate and declared that the girl has entered the India Book of Records.

Expressing his happiness over her daughter's achievement, Cherukuri Satyanarayana, father of Dolly, said that his daughter would also try her luck to enter her name into the Guinness Book of World Records.

"Now, we will attempt to make Dolly's name enter into the Guinness Book of World Records. We have made the application. We are hoping to hear from Guinness Book of World Records so that my daughter can give the trial soon," Cherukuri said.

He also said his ultimate wish is to see his daughter represent India in Olympics.

Dolly is being trained in the academy opened in memory of her brother Lenin.
