PETA's cruelty over animals shocks the world: Reports
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which works for total liberation of animals has killed 89.4 per cent of adoptable pets at its headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2012, a report of Centre for Consumer Freedom (CCF) has revealed.
In another report, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia, said the animal care organisation killed 1,647 cats and dogs last year while placing just 19 in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 29,398 pets have died at the hands of PETA workers, said the report.
Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia programme, the animal rights group has continued killing adoptable dogs and cats at an average of over 30 per week.

"PETA leaders have shown nothing towards the care for the pets that come to them for the shelter for help, and the employees doing nothing for the benefit of the animals," said J Justin Wilson, a senior research analyst at CCF.
"The animal rights group is talking out both sides of its mouth, on one side its preaching its animal liberation agenda, while on the other side signing the death warrant of over 89 per cent of pets in its care and it is one of the hypocritical act by the organisation," said Wilson.
With an annual budget of $36 million, PETA employees are allegedly doing nothing and rather pets that come across to them for a shelter are getting killed, the CCF report said.
The PETA has been accused of 'sexual' wrongdoings with all its advertisements and activities projecting women as nude objects and misusing them. Now, the new revelations against PETA over cruelty against animals are bound to create more headaches for the organisation.
"It seems PETA is more dedicated to publicity stunts than to keeping the animals in its own care alive," said Wilson, adding: "It's the height of hypocrisy for PETA to demonstrate for the ‘rights' animals while killing tens of thousands of pets. It's time that the Commonwealth of Virginia finally reclassifies PETA's pet shelter for what it is - a slaughterhouse."
