Elections is a tool to install democracy at all levels. It ensures that the most popular voice of every region is represented in the Parliament of India and the legislative assemblies of states. Section 151A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 mandates the Election Commission to fill the casual vacancies in the Houses of Parliament and State Legislatures through bye-elections within six months from the date of occurrence of the vacancy, provided that the remainder of the term of a member in relation to a vacancy is one year or more.
Hence, three parliamentary constituencies from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and as many as 6 assembly constituencies spread in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand and Tripura would go into bye-election on 23rd June, 2022 and the counting of the votes would take place on 26th June, 2022.
