Uttarakhand tragedy: Rotten dead bodies and skeletons of pilgrims recovered after a year

have been recovered in Jungle Chatti of Kedarnath, that was devastated in last year's cloudburst, torrential rains, flash-floods and landslides.

According to the NewsNation exclusive report, several decomposed and rotten bodies of pilgrims have reduced to skeletons and also exposed the lies claimed by the Uttarakhand government that they performed last rites of all dead people.

Scattered belongings like clothes, bags, shoes and suitcases of the pilgrims have also been found near their dead bodies.

Last year in June, at least 5,000 people died in the massive natural disaster that hit the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. Over 50,000 people were evacuated by air and land routes by the army and other forces from the affected areas.

The Uttarakhand government had put the number of missing at 4,700.

The death toll was recorded highest from Kedarnath, Gaurikund and Rambara, where thousands of pilgrims were gathered.

Authorities carrying out the resuce operations had to spray bleaching powder over the Kedarnath Valley to prevent the floating and buried dead bodies from decaying.

"The exact number of people dead or washed away may never be known", Uttarakhand former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna had said.

A year after the 'Char Dham' yatra was marred by massive flash floods that had left hundreds of people dead and many others stranded, the annual pilgrimage on May 2nd began with the reopening of the sacred portals of the Himalayan shrines of Gangotri and Yamunotri for devotees.
