Dehradun, July 11: The District Magistrate of Nainital has ordered all the schools in the area to remain closed on Thursday (July 12) in the wake of heavy rains in the region.

Of the seven people who died, four were killed when a building collapsed in Dehradun's Seemadwar while three others were washed away in Dalanwala, Sahaspur and Balliwala, Zee News reported.

The Chamba-Rishikesh NH-94 was blocked after landslides occurred near Fakot and Bhinnu areas of the state's Tehri district. The road clearing work is underway with machines being deployed in both the locations.

The rising water levels in the many rivers in the hill state is a particular cause for concern. The state had witnessed widespread destruction because of flash floods and landslides in 2013. The floods had killed 5,478 people and left thousands displaced. Over a lakh pilgrims were also left stranded by the landslides and bridge collapses.

Heavy rains continue to lash different parts of the country. In Manipur, at least nine people died in a landslide in Manipur's Tamenglong, news agency ANI reported. According to reports, the landslide was reported during the intermittent period of Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
