Two infants die of diarrhoea; 6 taken ill in TN village

(TN), Jun 13: In a suspected case of gastroenteritis, two eight-months-old

died and six other

were hospitalised in the district on Friday.

The two babies, who were twin brothers, were suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting and died at their home in Konganapuram Panchayat Union area, District Revenue Officer Selvaraj said.

Six other children under two years also had same symptoms and were admitted to the government hospital in Edapadi, he said.

The DRO said on hearing about the death of the children, he deputed Sankari Revenue Officer and Edapadi Thasildhar to ascertain the situation.

Joint Director of Health Dr Aadimolam told PTI that the twin died due to dehydration and the other six children were recovering.

The cause of death of the two children was being investigated, he said adding health teams had been posted in the village.
