Tamil Nadu: High-profile couple commits suicide due to financial crunch
Chennai, Oct 21: In a shocking incident, the managing editor of a leading Tamil fortnightly magazine committed suicide at his residence in Ramapuram suburb in Chennai, on Tuesday, Oct 20.
According to reports, 50-year-old Srinivasa Raghavan's 35-year-old wife S Janaki locked her inside the room of their apartment.She allegedly hanged herself to the ceiling fan using a saree.
When Raghavan found her hanging, he took down her wife's body and hanged himself from the ceiling fan of the hall.
The couple is survived by their eight-year-old son Anirudh, a student of Class 4th. Three days ago, they left him at a relative's house.
Raghavan had bought an apartment one-and-half-years ago, but due to financial crunch, he was not able to pay the EMI for home loan. This lead to arguments between the couple.
Royola Nagar police registered a case under the Section 174 (unnatural death) of CrPC. Their bodies were sent for postmortem to Government Royapettah Hospital.
Janaki, also known as Rajalakshmi, was a teacher in a private school and her husband was the managing editor of the magazine, a part of the Kalki group of magazines, for more than a decade, TOI reported.
