For a state that has always preferred regional parties over national parties Tamil Nadu is steadily paving way for the BJP. The results of bypolls in 3 constituencies of Tamil Nadu stands proof of BJP stomping ahead on regional parties like Vijayakanth's DMDK(Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) and former Union Minister Dr Ramdoss' PMK(Pattali Makkal Katchi) and Seeman's NTK(Naam Tamilar Katchi).

Combined vote share for BJP in all constituencies in TN stands at 2.6% with 13538 votes even as Vijayakanth's DMDK stands at a meagre 1.3% with 6806 votes. Vijayakanth's party failed miserably even when compared to 1.6 per cent vote share of independent candidates as announced by the Tamil Nadu election commission. DMDK has been on a losing streak since Lok Sabha elections of 2014. With its vote shares plunging seems like the BJP has made the most of it.

The fight has always been between arch rivals AIADMK and DMK but if Tuesday's bypolls results are anything to go by, Tamil Nadu is being stormed by the BJP that has secured its position in top 3 pushing down other dravidian parties. The bypolls results in Aravakuruchi, Thanjavur and Thiruparankundram have shown a clear sway of voters towards a national party like BJP.

Post the 'self respect movement' of Periyar that led to the rise of dravidian parties people of Tamil Nadu have always voted for dravidian parties. Over the last 3 years however, a non-dravidian BJP is giving the regional parties a run for their money.
