Madurai bench directs CBSE to give grace marks to candidates who took NEET in Tamil

Madurai, July 10: Madurai bench of Madras High Court has directed CBSE to award 196 marks to all Tamil candidates who took National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in Tamil language. The Bench was hearing a PIL over compensatory marks for NEET Tamil candidates.

The Madurai bench of Madras high court had admitted a public interest litigation (PIL) from CPM MP, T K Rangarajan seeking grace marks for Tamil medium students from the state who appeared for the exams. Contending that the CBSE failed to give proper Tamil translation of the question paper, the petition stated that 49 questions translated were either wrong or ambiguous.

NEET was held on May 7 amidst controversies including question papers in various languages, including Hindi, English and Tamil, were not the same and not of same difficulty level.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the examination for admission into the undergraduate admission to the medical colleges across the country.

The CBSE declared the NEET Result 2018 on June 4. This year, 6,34,897 students passed the NEET exam and scored over 50 per cent.
