J Jayalalithaa, 3rd Chief minister of Tamil Nadu to die while in office
Tamil Nadu has seen many of its leaders pass away while holding prominent posts. Each death has been an emotional turmoil for the state.
Late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5, 2016 at 11.30 PM aged 68. She became the third Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to pass away while holding office.
Tamil Nadu has seen many of its leaders pass away while holding prominent posts. Each death has been an emotional turmoil for the state. The jinx of sorts started with C N AnnaDurai. The first Dravidian party leader to ever hold the post of Chief Minister C N Annadurai died of cancer on February 3, 1969. Anna, as he was fondly called, continued in office against advice of doctors treating him.
The tallest leader that AIADMK has ever seen was not Jayalalithaa but her mentor and guide, M G Ramachandran or otherwise popularly called MGR. The actor-turned political phenomenon was diagnosed with kidney failure which was further worsened by diabetes. A massive stroke was the last straw and he was rushed to the United States for treatment. He never fully recovered and MGR breathed his last on December 24, 1987 while holding office of Chief Minister. Arson, riots and violence followed his death.

Probably following in the footsteps of her mentor, J Jayalalithaa too passed away while holding office of Chief Minister.
