Chennai: CCTV footage helps police crack robbery
Police began a hunt and arrested them
On November 25, a four-member gang on two motorbikes had intercepted Selvam, an employee of SDB Security Services, on 11th main road in Anna Nagar. The gang pushed Selvam down and stole Rs 10 lakh from him at knife-point.
The New Indian Express reported that police launched investigations into the robbery and studied footage of Closed Circuit Television cameras installed on buildings in and around the area.
A senior police official said, "We examined the CCTV camera footages from Anna Nagar and Aminjikarai. Fortunately, one camera on a building in Anna Nagar captured the entire sequence. From the video, we identified two history-sheeters, Sura alias Surendar and Prem Kumar."
Police began a hunt and arrested them. "On grilling the duo, they told police that Vijay alias Vijayakanth, who had worked in the company around two years ago, had masterminded the plot," a police officer said.
According to police, Vijay, who knew the method of money collection adopted by the firm, hatched a plan to rob it. He first approached one of his friends Jeeva alias Jeevanantham, who introduced him to Surendar and Prem Kumar.
"They later joined hands with two history-sheeters, Balaji and Pushparaj, to execute their plan. We have secured all the six persons and remanded them in judicial custody," police said.
