Odisha-born entrepreneur chosen for Senate election in Georgia
An entrepreneur and therapist by occupation, Mohanty is the first Odia to contest any parliamentary position outside India. He hails from Bhadrak district of Odisha and after doing his education in Odisha and Kolkata, Mohanty left for the US in 1994. He lives with his wife and three children in Valdosta in Lowndes County in Georgia, said the report.
The founder and chief executive officer of Innovative Rehab Solutions, Mohanty was appointed the White House Conference on Aging in 2005. Earlier in 2002-03, he worked for Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. He also formed a non-profit organisation named Mother Teresa Foundation to work on healthcare, the report added.
Mohanty is known for his philanthropic nature and contributed in the relief operations in Odisha during floods in his childhood. He said he decided to contest for the Senate position in the US to help deal with the employment problem.
