Madhya Pradesh: Woman gang-raped by four men in Betul district

Bhopal, July 09: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in a forest area of Betul district's Sonaghati, Madhya Pradesh, on July 7. A case has been registered under sections 376 (Punishment for rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Atrocities Act.

The incident occurred in Betul district 178 km away from MP capital Bhopal.

According to reports, in past 10 days four minors being raped in Madhya Pradesh alone. The latest incident was reported from Mandsaur where an 8-year-old girl was abducted from outside her school in Mandsaur and raped by unidentified men and then abandoned.

Against the backdrop of a spate of sex crimes against minor girls in Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath said the state was becoming a "rape state", drawing a sharp reaction from the ruling BJP. "Madhya Pradesh is turning into a rape state," Nath, who heads the state Congress unit, told reporters in Bhopal.
