Two-day Makkala Habba in Bengaluru from Nov 13

Bengaluru, Nov 12: This Children's Day United Way Bengaluru in association with the Department of Women and Child Development, (DWCD) Government of Karnataka and Vidyaranya, will organize a two-day carnival, on Nov 13 and 14.

The carnival, MakkalaHabba will recreate the traditional lifestyle, pastimes and sentiments for the people of Bengaluru.

Children can play games like Lagori, Buguri (top spinning) Goli (marbles) GilliDandu, Chatarabillu (catapult), Chowka bara, Chinni Mane, Cycle tyre race, Pagade, Skipping, Kunte Pille (hopscotch), AneKallu, Pachchi (Cup and ball), among others and will get a glimpse of the exciting traditional games their parents used to play.

There will also be events like pottery, basket weaving, brick making, ragi grinding, churning of buttermilk and many traditional activities that both adults and children enjoy and also partake in.

Manish Michael, Executive Director of United Way Bengaluru said, "Urban children who are busy with modern way of life, have absolutely no or very little exposure to the traditional life.

Most of these experiences be it food, games, crafts or occupations can enable children to have a deeper understanding of the rich, vibrant and vast culture of India.

Through this event we aim to connect every child back to its roots to enable them to embrace and cherish the past of their elders, parents, friends, community and last but not the least mother earth."

A special walkathon to create awareness for children afflicted by diabetes will be organised at 8am on the Nov 13. The objective of this event is to increase public awareness about diabetes in children.

The two day carnival will be in Cubbon Park, behind the library from Nov 13-14.
