When ‘Yamraj’ came on Bengaluru roads teaching motorists traffic rules

Bengaluru, July 11: In a unique initiative, a mace-wielding 'Yamaraja', God of Death, attired in his traditional golden dress intercepted bikers without helmets as part of Traffic Police's campaign to spread road safety awareness in the city.

On Tuesday, Yamaraj, the god of death, intercepted riders not wearing helmets and gifted them a rose along with an appeal to follow traffic rules.

Halasuru Gate Traffic Police hired Theater Artiste Veeresh and made him transform into Yamaraja so as to create awareness about the consequences of violating traffic norms. He warned motorists who were violating traffic rules. The aim of this awareness program is to minimize the number of accident cases by creating awareness among both the pedestrians and motorists.

Talking to the media persons, Anupam Agarwal, Dy. Commissioner of Traffic Police said that the month of July is being observed as road safety month. As part of creating awareness, various programs are being conducted.

Bengaluru Police informed that this awareness programmes planned by them had minimized the accidents. 7,506 accident took place in 2016 and 754 out of them were fatal. While 5,064 accidents happened in 2017, 2,336 accidents were reported by June-end this year.
