Senior Journalist Gauri Lankesh convicted in defamation case
Pronouncing the judgement on Monday, the second Judicial Magistrate First Class court sentenced her to six months imprisonment besides imposing a Rs 10,000 fine.
A Hubbali court convicted senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in a defamation case filed by BJP MP Pralhad Joshi.
Pronouncing the judgement on Monday, the second Judicial Magistrate First Class court sentenced her to six months imprisonment besides imposing a Rs 10,000 fine. Prahlad Joshi and BJP leader Umesh Dushi had filed separate defamation cases objecting to a report against BJP leaders published by Gauri Lankesh in her publication on January 23, 2008.
After deciding that she failed to provide any substantial evidence for the writing the court convicted her for defamation. The senior Journalist moved a bail application in the court which was granted immediately.
Gauri was the sole accused in the case filed by Pralhad Joshi and accused number 2 in case filed by Dushi. The court ordered six months imprisonment and Rs 5,000 fine on each of the cases on her.
