Girija, who was looking after Anand, had died 10 days before, said reports. After her death, Anand was left to starve as he was unable to call out for help. Anand was finally discovered 10 days after his wife's death by Girija's brother, Subramanya Madivala who lives in Honnavar town of the district, said reports.

Anand was rushed to a government hospital on Sunday but passed away on Monday. When Madivala visited their place on Sunday, Anand was found starved while the dead body of Girija was discovered in a decomposed condition.

Madivala said that his sister used to call him every week, but when she did not call him this time, he decided to go to Kulkar's house.

When he reached their home, Madivala found the doors of his sister's house locked from inside. After gaining access, he found Girija lying dead in a chair and in a weakened Anand on the bed.

He said that she may have died of a heart attack that occurred at night around 10 days ago.
