Now, Bengaluru malls to face power cuts for violating fire emergency norms

Bengaluru, Jan: Bengaluru fire and emergency department on Monday, Feb 1, asked Bengaluru Electricity Supply Limited (BESCOM) to disconnect electricity supply of the city malls if they violate norms of fire emergency.

The move comes in the backdrop of an accidental fire that broke out at Gopalan Arcade Mall, which is located at Rajarajeshwarinagar, Mysuru road yesterday at around 10: 45 am.

Gopalan Mall is among the 19 malls in Bengaluru which was served notice by the BBMP department with an extended deadline of 15-day to implement fire and safety measures in the city malls.

According to reports, fire broke out in one of the chimneys of the kitchen of Mc Donald's eatery shop on the first floor of the mall which was later on controlled by four fire and emergency services personnel who rushed to the spot from Byatarayanapura Fire Station and the fire was put out after nearly an hour long operation in afternoon. No injuries were reported during the fire accident.

MM Reddy, Director General of Police (Fire and emergency) served notice to 19 malls including Gopalan Arcade to follow the safety measures and also to be equipped with safety tools.

He even asked Bescom department to disconnect the power supply in the city malls who are found not following the norms wisely.

"It is now high time that the city malls are not following the norms after serving extended period of 15 days by the BBMP officials. So, now we should take strict action against those who are flouting the safety norms," he said.
