KRS, Hemavathi water levels to be full soon

Bengaluru, July 14: It is raining cats and dogs and there is good news at the reservoirs in Karnataka. The dam authorities are likely to open the crust gates of the Krishna Raja Sagar and Hemavathi dams as the reservoirs are likely to be filled anytime on Saturday. The authorities say that the people living in the vicinity of these reservoirs should be alert as excess water could flow into the rivers any moment.

KRS dam in Srirangapatna

According to data provided by Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the water level at KRS dam in Srirangapatna reached 120.20 feet on Friday, only 4. 60 short to reach the full reservoir level (FRL) of 124.80 feet. The live storage capacity of the dam is 45.05 feet, while 38.90 feet was live storage on Friday.

Hemavathi dam has filled after four years due to heavy rains in Hassan district. PWD minister HD Revanna is likely to perform special rituals today.

A dam across the Hemavati was completed in 1979, above Gorur in Hassan district, and downstream from the Yagachi confluence. The dam is 58 meters in height, and 4692 meters long, impounding a reservoir of 8502 hectares.
