Karnataka: CM promotes Kannada, signs only on docs using the language

Siddaramaiah
Madikeri, Jan 8: In a move to promote Kannada language and literature, the chief minister of Karnataka-Siddaramaiah-has decided to sign or entertain only those documents that are written in the language.

To encourage the full implementation of Kannada as the administrative language, he claims to have stopped signing files that are in English.

On the occasion of 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, he said,"I sent a couple of files back after I found they were in English." He has not stopped at that, as per sources, he has already set aside Rs 250 crore for the promotion of Kannada literature and culture.

"There have been a lot of proposals for research after the classical language status was given to Kannada, but implementation has been tardy due to lack of funds. I will ensure this is addressed at the earliest," he further added.

Stressing on the fact that he would not tolerate "anyone talking lightly about Karnataka, Kannada, the people and the government", he said that the government has filed cases against the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) legislators Sambhaji Patil and Arvind Patil who were part of a 'Karnataka government funeral procession' last year.
