Jayalalithaa appeal to be heard by Justice Kumaraswamy

Justice C R Kumaraswamy will hear the appeal filed by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa. The Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court constituted the special bench of Justice Kumaraswamy to hear the appeals filed by Jayalalithaa.

First notification of 2015:

Incidentally the first notification of the Karnataka High Court in the year 2015 is pertaining to the Jayalalithaa appeal. The Bench comprising Justice Kumaraswamy will hear the appeal on a day to day basis.

In addition to this case, the same Bench will also hear the appeals filed by V K Sasikala, V N Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi.

First hearing tomorrow:

The first hearing is scheduled to take place tomorrow. However since Justice Kumaraswamy is on leave the matter will come up before Justice Billappa.

The matter may just come up for a mention by the day to day hearing is likely to commence only on January 5^th when Justice Kumaraswamy returns from leave.

Under challenge:

Jayalalithaa and her associates are challenging the September 27^th order of the special court which had sentenced her to four years imprisonment and Rs 100 crore fine.

The Supreme Court which granted her bail had after the High Court rejected it directed the constitution of a special bench and also stated that the matter shall be heard on a day to day basis and completed in three months.

Jayalalithaa had to step down from her post of Chief Minister following her conviction. Unless the conviction is returned she shall not be able to contest elections for another ten years.
