In pics: Narendra Modi's foreign tours since becoming PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant impact on India's foreign policy, thanks to the politics of mobility that he has brought into the domain.

The leader, who came to power after getting a massive majority in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, focussed on the foreign affairs from Day 1. He invited heads of state of all Saarc states, including Pakistan, to his swearing-in ceremony and visited several states across the global, from Nepal to the United States to China.

PM Modi at BRICS Summit

PM Narendra Modi attended the 6th BRICS Summit at Fortaleza in Brazil which was also attended by top leaders of Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa.

PM Narendra Modi in Bhutan

PM Narendra Modi visited Paro and Thimpu in Bhutan before attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil. It was seen as an initiative by the new government in New Delhi to check the growing closeness between China and Bhutan, one of India's traditional friends in South Asia. He stressed on bigger business ties with the small neighbour.

PM Narendra Modi in Nepal

PM Modi became the first Indian PM in 17 years to visit Nepal on a bilateral visit. He also became the first foreign leader to address Nepal Parliament. Modi also announced a credit assistance programme of US$1 billion to Nepal and vowed not to interfere in its internal affairs.

PM Modi in Japan

PM Modi's visit to Japan was his first bilateral state visit outside the subcontinent. His visit to Kyoto and Tokyo saw ties between the two countries strengthening and inking of several key agreements. Modi's playing drum during this tour was a high point in the media and the opposition in India.

PM Modi in USA

PM Modi addressed the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. He then visited New York and Washington. He also appealed to the world leaders to observe Yoga Day. Modi's speech at the Madison Square in New York made the headlines.

PM Modi in Myanmar

PM Narendra Modi went to Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, to attend the 9th East Asia Summit in November. He also met Myanmar President U Thein Sein.

PM Modi in Australia

PM Narendra Modi visited Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney after the Myanmar trip. He attended the G20 Summit and also met Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

PM Modi in Fiji

PM Modi visited Suva, the capital of Fiji, on a one-day trip in November, 2014. He became the first Indian head of government to visit Fiji after Indira Gandhi's visit in 1981. He also attended a 'Forum for India-Pacific Island cooperation' along with leaders of all 14 Pacific islands nations.

PM Modi in Nepal for Saarc Summit

PM Narendra Modi went to Kathmandu in late November for a three-day Saarc Summit. It was his first-ever participation in the Saarc Summit. PM Modi tried his best to give the stagnant Saarc a push but Pakistan's stubborn stands caused disruption.

PM Modi in Seychelles

PM Narendra Modi visited Victoria in Seychelles in March as part of his initiative to reach out to countries in Indian Ocean. He held talks with Seychelles President James Michel to improve maritime ties and enhance bilateral development cooperation.

PM Narendra Modi served as the chief guest at the Mauritian National Day on March 12.

PM Modi in Sri Lanka

PM Narendra Modi visited Colombo and Jaffna in a rescheduled visit to the island-nation. The two neighbours signed agreements on visa, customs, youth development and building a memorial on Rabindranath Tagore during this visit.

PM Modi in Singapore

PM Modi attended the state funeral of Singapore's first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. He also met several world leaders on the sidelines, including Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

PM Modi in France

PM Narendra Modi visited Paris and Toulouse during his visit to France. He met President Francoise Hollande and a number of agreements were signed between India and France during this visit. Modi invited French investors to come to India as part of his 'Make in India' initiative.

PM Modi in Germany

Modi visited Berlin and Hannover during his three-day visit. No agreement was signed during Modi's second visit to Germany (he had visited Brazil for the BRICS Summit last year but couldn't meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel) but the framework was laid for the future.

PM Modi in Canada

PM Narendra Modi visited Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver in Canada to wind up his three-nation tour that also included France and Germany. His visit, however, saw some protests. The visit generated business worth more than 1.6 billion Canadian Dollars, said sources in the Canada government.

PM Modi in China

PM Narendra Modi visited X'ian, Beijing and Shanghai during his three-day tour and besides visiting a number of cultural centres, he also oversaw signing of 26 deals worth $22 billion with the Chinese.

Modi became the first Indian prime minister to visit Mongolia. India announced a $1-billion credit line to the land-locked country for infrastructure development.

PM Modi in South Korea

PM Modi concluded his three-nation tour in May by visiting Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
