Chintamani gets its second Bharat Ratna laureate
Chintamani, where Prof Rao's father CH Nagesa Rao spent a few years, was thrilled with Prof Rao getting the Bharat Ratna.
This however is the second time that a person from Chintamani is receiving the award. Earlier Sri Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya had also received the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
Prof Rao's father stayed in Chintamani before moving to Blore
According to a report in the Times of India, H Bhavani Shankar, who works in the PWD, in Kolar said that Rao's father had spent a few years in Chintamani, before the family shifted to Bangalore, where Rao was born in 1934. Rao's forefathers were working in various government offices during the British regime in the counrty.
Rao was awarded the Bharat Ratna on Saturday, Nov 16 for his contribution to the scientific field. He has published many journals and books and has received many national and international awards.
