Cauvery issue: Avoid Mysore, Hosur roads today


Bengaluru, Sept 6: Traffic movement has been severely affected on the roads leading to Mysore and Hosur due to protests.

In Mandya, Karnataka, the roads have been blocked by people protesting against the verdict of the Supreme Court which ordered release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Protests also erupted at Srirangapatana and roads have been blocked.

Cauvery issue: Avoid Mysore, Hosur roads

At Hosur there has been a pile up of vehicles and complaints of traffic jams have been pouring in. Buses and other vehicles from Tamil Nadu have piled up at the border.

No vehicles from Tamil Nadu are being allowed as a precautionary measure. The police have also advised against any vehicle from Karnataka too entering Tamil Nadu.

The road to Mysore has been more affected. Protests have been taking place in several pockets. Protests have taken place in Ramnagar, Mandya, Mysore and Srirangapatana as well. The police have deployed 2,400 of their personnel in Mandya alone.

Police officials are analysing the situation and if the need be then reinforcement would be sent. The protests have so far been peaceful.

As a precautionary measure, the government has ordered that Krishna Raja Sagara Dam and Brindavan Gardens near Mysore will be closed for four days. There is also heavy deployment of police in these areas.

The law minister of Karnataka has appealed to the people to stay calm. "Please do not take law into your hands as the government is trying to work out a solution," he also said. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hold an all party meeting on the issue.
