BSR Congress chief Sriramulu to embrace BJP again
According to reports, the BSR Congress and BJP merger will soon be a reality within a week.
Like former Karnataka chief minister and KJP chief B S Yeddyurappa merged his party with BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2014, Sriramulu's comeback will also be a low-key affair.
As Sriramulu belongs to Naik community (a Scheduled Tribe), he is considered as an influential man in Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Gadag and Chitradurga districts and it can prove as a huge advantage for the BJP, who lost power to Congress during last year's assembly elections.
However, there are some reports that senior party leader Sushma Swaraj is not so happy with Sriramulu rejoining into BJP. Sriramulu faces no corruption or illegal mining case against him.
According to TOI report, Sriramulu may be asked to contest from Bellary Lok Sabha constituency in place of his sister J Shantha.
Sriramulu on Sunday said, "BJP leaders, state leaders have invited me to rejoin the party... They have invited me to rejoin the party keeping national interest in mind and forgetting all past bitter experiences and misunderstandings."
"I will discuss about the invitation with my party workers from all across the state, and after discussing with them in detail I will come to a final decision in next two-three days," he added.
A close associate of jailed mining baron former minister B Janardhan Reddy, Sriramulu had quit BJP in 2011 and then contested as an independent candidate from the Bellary Rural constituency and won.
BJP leader and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley will reach Bangalore on March 5, Wednesday to decide future course of action regarding general elections.
The Congress has nominated NY Hanumanthappa, a former high court judge from Bellary constituency for the upcoming polls.
