Bengaluru: Sweltering heat torments residents; surge in sale of ACs & coolers

Bengaluru, May 2: Bengaluru, once famous for its moderate and pleasant weather throughout the year, is reeling under intense heatwave.

This year, summers in Bengaluru began by March, April was sweltering and May is also showing no signs of rains. Only light and intermittent showers in few areas of the IT City managed to brought down the temperature for a while, but it gave no respite from the scorching heat.

Residents of Bengaluru, who have been staying in the city for a long time are stunned by the rising temperature.

Mr Shyam, who has been staying in Bengaluru from last 40 years said that last time such a rising temperature was witnessed in 2004, but after that the weather became normal.

Another senior resident of Jayanagar, Mr Subramaniam alleged that he purchased and air condition three weeks back, but it yet to be installed.

In Bengaluru, there was never the need of buying coolers, but this summer season, retailers are running out of stock.

Due to the soaring mercury, demand has gone sky-high and supply has been hit. That's why retailers are not able to send technician for fixing the acs.

Companies like Croma, Blue Star, Tata-owned Voltas and Girias have registered surge in sales of coolers and acs, but they have gone out of stock, due to high demand.

Besides acs and coolers, demand of refrigerators have also gone up.

Amid the rising temeperature, Bengalureans are desperately waiting for rain gods to show some sympathy in coming days.
