Bengaluru: Strict action against drunk drivers during New Year celebrations

Bengaluru, Dec 30: Bengaluru Police on Wednesday, Dec 30, issued strict warning that strong action will be taken against those caught violating traffic rules during Dec 31st night.

The police said drunk drivers will be severely penalised and directed all the pubs and bar owners to arrange cabs for the revelers on Thursday, Dec 31, and Friday, Jan 1.

Additional commissioner of Police, MA Saleem told OneIndia, "We have deployed about 300 traffic police so that traffic is not being hampered and rules of drunk and drive are not violated on occasion of the new year's eve to avoid accident and injuries. Vehicular movement over MG road and Brigade road is not allowed from 8 pm on Dec 31."

Police have also banned vehicular movement on flyover between 10 pm to 8 am on Friday, Jan 1.

Saleem further added, "We will also act against those who will participate in racing and wheeling.

In 2014, 4 people were injured as well as 18 were injured in accident on New Year's eve, while 5 killed and 9 suffered injury in 2013.

All pubs and bar will remain open till 1 am on Friday, Jan 1. Bengaluru police has also recommended cancellation of driving licenses of tipsy driver.
