Bengaluru: Girl set afire by boyfriend, succumbs to burn injuries

Bengaluru, March 18: Days after struggling for life, Meghana N, a 22-year-old engineering student succumbed to severe burn injuries on March 17, Thursday night.

On March 11, Friday, Meghana's 21-year-old boyfriend, Deepak Shivkumar, a pre-university dropout student, had set her house on fire by pouring 20 litres of kerosene at her home at Saibabanagar in Srirampura in West Bengaluru.

After six days of battle with life, Meghana breathed her last at 10:15 pm at St. John's Hospital in Koramangala. [Bengaluru: Engineering student critical after lover attack]

Meanwhile, her parents (P Natarajan & Anupama) and her sister Sanjana, who received upto 20% burn injuries are still recuperating.

Meghana was admitted to hospital with 60 percent burns in critical condition.

Deepak, who was working at a medical store at Devaiah Park, surrendered himself to the police after committing the deadly crime.

During interrogation, he revealed that he was upset with Meghana's changed attitude towards their long relationship.

According to family members, Meghana and Deepak were in a love-relationship since past four years.

Off late, Meghana had started concentrating on her studies and career, that irked Deepak.

Meghana's family also alleged that Deepak had once took Meghana to Mysuru to forcefully marry her in a temple. But her father convinced him by telling him that their marriage will take place in a traditional way.

Even though Meghana's family was not happy with their relationship, but they were trying to accept thier daughter's choice.
