Bengaluru, July 13: The Forest Department went into a state of shock on Tuesday, July 12 after they received information about the death of a black panther cub along with a leopard in Bandipur Tiger Reserve.

According to reports, some days back the forest department officials were happy to know that the number of Black Panthers in the tiger reserve was on the rise.

The forest department officials suspect that they (the black panther cub and leopard) must have died due to poisoning but the same is yet to be confirmed. A post mortem is yet to be conducted.
Both were found dead in a village Anijpura within Omkar range vicinity.

Earlier Bfirst.in reports stated that there was a rapid increase in the number of black panthers in Bandipur as well as Nagarhole regions.

Black panther deaths are common in these parts as last year too a leopard was found dead in Nagarhole whereas another one was reported dead in 2014.

Officials believe that locals from the area poison carcasses and leave it for the wild animals to feed on when they enter their vicinity.
