Bengaluru: Black Panther cub, leopard found dead in Bandipur Tiger Reserve
Bengaluru, July 13: The Forest Department went into a state of shock on Tuesday, July 12 after they received information about the death of a black panther cub along with a leopard in Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
According to reports, some days back the forest department officials were happy to know that the number of Black Panthers in the tiger reserve was on the rise.
The
forest
department
officials
suspect
that
they
(the
black
panther
cub
and
leopard)
must
have
died
due
to
poisoning
but
the
same
is
yet
to
be
confirmed.
A
post
mortem
is
yet
to
be
conducted.
Both
were
found
dead
in
a
village
Anijpura
within
Omkar
range
vicinity.
Earlier Bfirst.in reports stated that there was a rapid increase in the number of black panthers in Bandipur as well as Nagarhole regions.
Black panther deaths are common in these parts as last year too a leopard was found dead in Nagarhole whereas another one was reported dead in 2014.
Officials believe that locals from the area poison carcasses and leave it for the wild animals to feed on when they enter their vicinity.
