Capt Gopinath becomes one of the many high profile personalitites to join the AAP in recent times. Former Infosys board member V Balakrishnan and former RBS India CEO Meera Sanyal were the ones who had joined the party recently.
Capt Gopinath had contested the elections from Bangalore south as an independent candidate in 2009 against BJP's Ananth Kumar but lost to him. He had got only 1.2 per cent of votes [see results].
Gopinath who may contest the elections on AAP's ticket says that he is a strong supporter of the Anna movement. "Although Anna and Kejriwal are not together now, AAP has converted the idea and created a platform for converting actions into aspirations. I want to be part of that change," he said.
