A united opposition tore into the Congress on Friday over Income Tax raids exposing government officials with unaccounted money in the state. The legislative session in Belagavi on Friday saw the Congress being cornered in both the assembly and the council.
Where did the new notes come from? When the common man is standing in a queue to withdraw money, how did these officials acquire new notes worth crores of rupees? Those raided are said to be close to the Chief Minister and Minister Mahadevappa, shouldn't there be a probe”, asked Jagadish Shettar, Leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly.

The scene wasn't very different in the council with BJP's K S Eshwarappa questioning why the officers shouldn't be suspended. Suspending them won't mean they are guilty. Suspend them and order an investigation against them”, suggested Basavraj Horatti to Home Minister G Parameshwara.

The Chief Minister however, distanced himself from those raided. They are only government employees and not my aides. Central Income Tax officials raided them and they don't give us any report or information. They will initiate inquiry, said the Chief Minister when asked if he will order a probe into the matter.
