Baltimore institute honours Pinarayi Vijayan for containing Nipah outbreak


Thiruvananthapuram, July 8: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was honored by the Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore, US on Sunday for state's action to prevent the spread of Nipah virus.

Famous virologist and co-founder of the Institute, Dr Robert Gallo, presented memento to Pinarayi Vijayan at a function held at the IHV campus.

Dr Robert Gallo, a bio medical researcher is known for his work in the discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as responsible for acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Kerala state Health Minister, KK Shailaja was also part of the event.

Vijayan is currently on US tour and visited IHV, Baltimore to acquire first hand knowledge on the functioning of the institute to set up world class Virology Institute in Kerala. Health Minister KK Shailaja Teacher also accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit to the institute.
