Video: Toddler gets out of car and walks to police officer with hands up

Washington, Jan 21: In what became a viral video on social media, a girl toddler without shoes is seen getting out of a car and walking towards a few police officers with her hands up. It looked as if the child was on the streets without anybody helping her out.

The story was later revealed, thanks to more videos that came out from a Florida police officer's body camera. The cops in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, responding to a reported theft by an armed person last Thursday, January 17, stopped a suspect's truck and found there were two little children, a two-year-old girl and a year-old boy inside, a video posted on Facebook by Tallahassee City Police showed.

As the officers arrested the suspect, the girl got out of the vehicle and walked towards the police with a surrendering gesture. The suspect, meanwhile, was heard on the video claiming himself to be the father of the two children.

In the video of the traffic stop recorded by a passerby, someone said: "She's trying to get out. Oh, my God! She's trying to get out, but she can't because she's little," and "Ooh, she's holding her hands up."

The police released the body camera footage later and it gave a different perspective, according to Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo. "The officers stopped the vehicle and were following their training as they had the suspected armed adults step out of the truck," DeLeo said in a video posted on Facebook, CNN reported.

"When, unexpectedly, a 2-year-old girl climbed out of the truck and imitated her parents by walking towards the officers with her hands raised."

In the body camera footage, an officer was seen assuring the toddler saying she was fine and asked her to put her hands down.

The other child was found strapped in his car seat inside the vehicle.

"A weapon is found in the backseat, although the gun looks real, it's actually a pellet gun," DeLeo said.

Two persons were arrested later on charges of theft, the police said. The officers allowed the children's mother to take care of them.
