Indian couple who fell to death at Yosemite National Park was intoxicated: Autopsy


Washington, Jan 22: The Indian blogger couple who suffered a tragic death after falling off an overlook at the Yosemite National Park in California, US, last October, was allegedly intoxicated when the mishap occurred, said a report.

Autopsy of the bodies of Vishnu Viswanath and Meenakshi Moorthy that was completed on January 4 by forensic pathologist Dr Sung-Ook Baik from California's Stanislus County Sheriff's Department, said the couple had been drinking before the accident.

The duo was "intoxicated with ethyl alcohol prior to death," Dr Baik wrote in his report which was accessed by San Jose-based The Mercury News. Ethyl alcohol is found in beer and most brandy and whiskey.

The couple fell approximately 800 feet below the Taft Point, National Park Service, had said in a statement. The Taft Point is dangerously high with no railing and requires caution even though it offers a magnificent opportunity to click photos.

The bodies of the couple were later recovered through "rappelling techniques" and a helicopter. The autopsy report said they had multiple injuries to head, chest and abdomen sustained by the fall from a big height.
