Rajan Bargorta assumes charge as commander for Coast Guard Region (East)


Chennai, April 30: Inspector General Rajan Bargorta took over as the New Commander Coast Guard Region (East) on Saturday.

He succeeds Inspector General S P Sharma, who retired after completing more than three-and-a-half decades of service with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

An ICG Spokesperson said that the handing over taking over ceremony was held at the Coast Guard Air Station with full military honours.

The regional commander stressed upon further strengthening the coastal security mechanism, expedite the growth of infrastructure of support to various Coast Guard operations and ensure safety and security of the fisherman.

Inspector General Sharma joined ICG in 1985 and was holding the appointment of Principal Director (Logistics), at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi, ahead of his new posting.

Meanwhile, the Indian Navy said that Commodore G Prakash has taken charge as the Commanding Officer of INS Venduruthy and as Station Commander in Kochi. INS Venduruthy supports all naval units and activities around Kochi.

An anti-submarine warfare (ASW) specialist aviator, Commodore Prakash has commanded three naval warships including INS Ajay, INS Taragiri and INS Tir.

He has undertaken extensive tsunami relief work at Sri Lanka.
