Popular Odia actor Raimohan Parida found dead


Bhubaneswar, Jun 24: Raimohan Parida, who has acted in films, theatres, television, and Jatra, was found dead on Friday. He was 58. Many actors visited Parida's residence to pay tributes and express condolences.

Known for essaying negative roles, Parida has acted in over 100 Odia films and 15 Bengali movies. He was also a popular figure in theatre.

The initial report suggests Parida died by suicide. However, the reason behind the actor ending his life is yet to be known.

Parida is survived by his wife and two daughters. His family members found him hanging from the ceiling of his room in the morning. Prima facie, it seems to be a suicide case but further investigation is underway, a police officer said, adding the body will be sent for post-mortem examination.

Raimohan Parida was born on July 10, 1963. Popular actor Siddhanta Mahapatra, who has acted with Parida in several movies, said, "It is hard to believe that such a jolly person, who has experienced several ups and downs in life, can think of doing something like this. He was highly successful in the profession."

Another actor Sritam Das said it was unbelievable that Parida, who had become a "hero from zero" could die by suicide. Parida's neighbours said they met him on Thursday and he appeared his usual self, and that he had a good relationship with everyone.

Raimohan Parida began his career in Odia film through 'Sagar'. Popular movies of the actor include 'Bandhana', 'Chhati Chiridele Tu', ' Kalishankar', 'Toh Bina Mo Kahani Adha','Asibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani', 'Tu Thile Mo Dara Kahaku', 'Neija Re Megha Mote', 'Toh Pain Nebi Mu Sahe Janama', ' De Maa Shakti De', 'Rakate Lekhichi Naa', 'Mo Mana Khali Tumari Pain', 'Udandi Seeta'. He has also acted in many TV serials.

He won accolades for his acting in movies like Singha Bahini (1998), Suna Bhauja (1994) and Mental (2014) and others.

Parida also won Odisha State Film Award. He is the recepient of Abhinandia puraskar.
