Inspired by PM Modi, woman tea-seller becomes village head in UP


Lucknow, Dec 22: Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a woman tea seller has succeeded in becoming the pradhan of her village.

The incident is of Agra district of Uttar Pradesh where Pooja Kumari, mother of two fought Panchayat election and won it successfully.

Graduate with B.Ed degree, Pooja Kumari said that she was highly motivated with Prime Minister Modi. Brimming with confidence, the daring lady said, "Let alone winning, just contesting the election was a big deal for me and my family".

Reportedly, she will be head of cluster of 16 villages, which falls under single Panchayat.

When asked about her family background and life style, she was quoted by TOI as saying , "For ages, my in-laws have been involved in selling tea. After marriage, I too joined my husband in selling tea at Patiyali railway station. None of my ancestors had any political background, but more than 4,500 voters of 16 villages voted for me."

Pooja's husband also provided unflinching support to her to achieve this feat.

Pooja's husband, Munish Kumar was quoted as saying, "During the campaign, I took care of the kids and the tea stall as she went around the villages convincing people about her dream of ensuring education for girls in the area," he added.
