ECI bribery case: TTV Dinakaran sent to police custody

The Delhi police told the court that Dinakaran and Mallikarjun would be taken to Bengaluru, Chennai etc for further investigations


The Tis Hazari court on Wednesday sent TTV Dinakaran to five days police custody. Arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe election commission of India officials, TTV Dinakaran was produced before Judge Poonam Chowdhary in the Tis Hazari court in Delhi. A bail application moved by him was rejected by the Delhi court. Dinakaran, who appeared before the Delhi crime branch police for questioning for the first time on Saturday was sent to police custody.

In his bail application moved before special Judge Poonam Chowdhary, Dinakaran claimed that he was willing to extend full cooperation to the investigating authorities. He also told the court that he was not given exemption from appearing in person before the investigating authorities despite the death of his relative. Dinakaran cited health reason for bail and also claimed that he was the victim of a larger conspiracy. In his petition, Dinakaran told the court that he was summoned only to produce the visitors' register at AIADMK headquarters and at his residence.

Dinakaran along with his aide Mallikarjuna was arrested on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Both accused were produced before the court as per procedure. The Delhi police who produced alleged middleman Sukesh Chandrasekhar on Tuesday in the same court had successfully got an extension on his custody. The Delhi police told the court that the duo needed to be taken out of Delhi for further investigations.
